Duran Duran's Biopic Dilemma: A Complex Story of Friendship and Music
The iconic British band Duran Duran is contemplating a biopic, but it's a decision that's not taken lightly. In an era where biopics about legendary artists are commonplace, Duran Duran is approaching the idea with caution. Bassist John Taylor, in a recent interview, shared his thoughts on the matter, highlighting the unique challenges of depicting a band with five members.
But here's where it gets controversial... Taylor compares the potential biopic to films like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Rocketman," which focused on individual creative geniuses. He believes that with Duran Duran, the story becomes more akin to "Ocean's 11," a tale of intricate interplay between five individuals. "It's about the friendship that drives the music," he explains.
Taylor admits that he's not sure if he'd even want to see such a movie. "I'm drawn to stories of survival and challenge," he says, "and Duran Duran is, in a way, a story of enduring friendship."
And this is the part most people miss... Duran Duran's longevity and success are not just about their music. The band has a superstitious rule: they aim to perform live every six weeks to keep their creative muse alive. Taylor believes this consistency is key to their enduring popularity. "Take a year off, and you might as well disappear," he warns.
As for the biopic, it seems the band is still undecided. "We've seen scripts," Taylor admits, "but there are no immediate plans."
In the meantime, Duran Duran continues to tour, with shows scheduled into 2026. Their next concerts will take them across the United States, including a New Year's Day performance in Las Vegas. So, if you're a fan, mark your calendars!
